Capercaillie ("Kap-ir-Kay-Lee", named after a large grouse) started in Scotland in 1984. Their first release "Cascade" was the band's only effort on the Etive label and since then all their releases have been through Green Linnet.
Like many Celtic artists, Capercaillie's break came with a film soundtrack. Their score for 1995's "Rob Roy" starring Liam Neeson featured some of the best Scottish traditional music to be experienced on the silver screen. Though it was overshadowed a bit by the blitz surrounding "Braveheart" (released the same year) the soundtrack nonetheless occupies a special place in the hearts of fans.
