Five-time East Coast Music Award (ECMA) nominees, including the recent ECMA nomination for the 2001 Entertainer of the Year Award and nominee for the 2000 Group of the Year from the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia, KILT is multi-instrumentalists and step dancers Brennan MacDonald, vocals, guitars, mando-cello, mandolin, and banjo; Bonny Jean MacDonald, fiddle, mandolin and vocals; and Tony Ronalds, lead vocals, whistles, percussion, and harmonica.
Hailing from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, an area steeped with a rich musical legacy, KILT describes their music as a unique fusion of roots, pop, rock, and country. "It's the elements of all these styles and Bonny's Cape Breton fiddling flair that make our music fun and ever changing. We like to call it ear candy," chuckles Brennan.
Performing together since 1997, the crowd-pleasing, original group is regularly joined on stage and on recordings by Scott MacFarlane, bass and Chris MacFarlane, drums. Selling out shows from St. John's to Vancouver, KILT is undeniably one of Canada's most popular and exuberant live touring acts.
KILT have two independent albums to their credit: a self titled debut album (1997) and Four In The Crib (1999), both of which offer an assortment of intelligent, catchy, and memorable songs and have collectively sold over 20,000 units.
The group also features songs on various compilations, including:
Canada Roots 2000
Kiss Army On Line
Creature of the Net (2000)
The Split Crow Collection (2000)
Irish Collection (2000)
Ceildh Collection (1999)
