Gerry O'Bierne

Picture: Gerry O'Bierne:

Gerry O'Bierne is probably best known as a songwriter. His compositions have been recorded by such greats as "Maura O'Connell", Mary Black, Mae McKenna, Andy Stewart and Cathie Ryan. Yet he is also a great musician and performer in his own right.

Born in Ennis, County Clare Gerry is a self-taught master of the six and twelve string guitar. His first solo CD was "Half Moon Bay" which has been a standard here on Celtic Grove. As a bouy he was raised in Ghana, West Africa as well as in the west of Ireland and the music of both places has influenced his work. Gerry has toured with several bands including "Sharon Shannon", "Midnight Well", "The Waterboys" and the Grateful Dead. His work as a producer will be familiar to Celtic Grove fans from Clandestine 's "To Anybody at All" . Half Moon Bay was chosen as one of the best 12 independant albums of 2000 by Songwriter Magazine
