General Questions About Celtic Music and Culture

Q: How did all of this get started?

A: Depending on what worldview you adhere to the whole universe either started as a quantum singularity or "big bang, was created by a benevolent and munificent architect or is supported by several elephants on the back of a turtle. Most of that is beyond the scope of this FAQ - Let's just say that a couple of geeks with more Celtic CD's and programming skills than free time decided to share what they contrived to be their talents with the world somewhere around 1998.

Q: Why don't you play my favorite Celtic band? The (insert band's name here) are from (insert name of small town in Canada, Ireland, Southern United States, Zeta Reticuli etc) and they rock and you really should play them.

A: Maybe we will. We always follow up on suggestions for new bands. If you have a favorite band you haven't seen or heard on the Grove - send us any information you have on them so we can get in touch.

There are 3 possible reasons they aren't in our playlist. One is they may be on a label we don't have a license agreement with yet. This can happen with both big label bands and independant artists. Second, we may never have heard of them. In that case you need to send us their contact info. Lastly, they may not be on the list for a reason. We give almost every submission to the Grove a shot at the playlist. If listener feedback is postive the band will do well. If listener feedback is not positive - it's into the archives with them. This happens rarely, but....

Q: Do you know how I can get (Famous Celtic Persona)'s autograph? Also sometimes - How do I write to (Bono, Van Morrison, Pipe Major McBunnyhop)? Or - I love Mary Jane Lamond how can I convince her to return my ransom notes - erm - I mean - greeting cards?

A: We really have no idea. We don't know any of these folks. At best they are kind enough to let us talk to them a few minutes for an interview.

Q: How can I look up my Clan, Sept, Tartan?

A: We are working on a new section for genealogy. In the meantime you can visit The Official List of Tartans or a Big List of Genealogy Links

Q: I'm a member of Celtic Grove but I can't login to participate in the forums! When I try, it says that I'm NOT a member, but when I try to sign up again, it says I am a member. What's wrong?

A: If you're already a member, your login for the website is username@emailaddress.com, then your password. Your username for this site takes the form of the e-mail address you listed on your membership application, so if you've just been putting in your username, that's the problem!

Q: How can I learn about the Druids?

A: Meet us near the sarsen stone at the twelfth hour on St. Michaelmas' Day. Bring a towel.
